It's a big job protecting the President of the United States and maybe even bigger when it's time for one administration to transition to another.

This year may be the most challenging in American history, especially after the events of January 6th when protests turned violent and armed men and women stormed the U.S. Capitol building.

Federal authorities are planning for more protests ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's swearing-in on Wednesday, January 20th.

For an insider's view of the enormous task of securing the Inauguration and preventing another possible insurrection, Get Marty reached out to one man who knows the job inside and out, former Secret Service Agent Ron Layton. He grew up in Pittsburgh's Hill District and has served four Presidents including Donald Trump.

How is the violence last week impacting the planning this week? Layton says, "Anytime there is a major consequential event that shocks the conscience, there's a tendency to say this... If this just happened, we want to make sure that this, no matter what this is, never happens again." When asked if the 25,000 national guard troops assigned to security in Washington, DC is overkill, he says based on what just happened it's entirely appropriate.
