Every day in the gym, I see people wasting a lot of time and energy for subpar results (sometimes including injury!). It’s a shame. I don’t want you to waste your time or energy.

Today’s #WeightRoomWednesday is about a concept called “time under tension” and another concept called “full range of motion”. One of my favorite lifting quotes is “a great lifter makes the heavy weight look light, and the light weight FEEL heavy”. This is how good lifters become great lifters.

These are great to learn if you’re just starting out, and absolutely VITAL for experienced lifters who have been at it awhile chasing heavier and heavier weight. My more experienced clients always roll their eyes when I cut their weight by 30% or more, and teach them this stuff. They also always thank me later.

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you’ve seen me encourage a proper amount of both of these, but today we’re going to expand on them so you can get better results in less time. As the saying goes… Work smarter, but also still hard. Or something like that.

I used the push up as an example, but this applies to all exercises. As you progress, there is room and reasoning for doing more explosive, quicker reps with heavier weight on certain “compound movements” that recruit big muscle groups, but even those will be cleaner, safer, and more beneficial by practicing this for a while.
