I'm all about simplicity. My workouts are primarily push ups, pull ups, rows, deadlifts, squats, and lunges. You won't be suprised to learn that I start my workouts with something super simple like breathing. You might be surpised at how beneficial it can be.
You already breathe. Do it deeply 10 times before your next workout (which may start with some other things we’ve covered in #MobilityMonday before) as a quick way to chill your nervous system out from the stresses of daily life, relieve some built-up muscle tension, and oxygenate your cells before you use them to move your body (and possibly extra weight).
Actually, this is something you could throw in anywhere in your day. I’ve never regretted taking ten deep breaths.
(I also like to get my posture in check while I do this, so I run you through that in the video as well):
I know what you’re thinking, “Matt, won’t I get too zen for an intense workout?” Not if you have the right soundtrack! I just found this dope cover Trivium did of I Don't Wanna Be Me by Type O Negative. You can put it on to pick yourself right back up and go crush some weights:
Have fun and do your best,
