It’s no secret that stress levels are at an all-time high in 2019 America. Sometimes, people eat food to cope. And it’s not usually the healthiest food like fruits, vegetables, and protein. (I go for candy, personally.)
As a nutrition coach, I’ve found when you address the “stress” side of things, the “eating” side will usually work itself out. Since it's
#NutritionTipTuesday, here are three suggestions for managing stress eating:
- Take 6 deep breaths. It is the simplest way to quickly reduce stress. (Link from Harvard. Because credibility.)
- Ask yourself why you’re stressed in the first place.
- Ask yourself if eating is actually helping your stress. If so, go ahead and eat! Your friends fruits veggies and protein will still be there for you when you’re less stressed! If not, explore other options that actually do help. I’m particularly fond of push ups and squats!
Don't these sound so much better than being like "NO MORE COOKIES! NO MORE CAKE! NO MORE CANDY!"? Now THAT sounds stressful!
