FRISCO — Former President Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance Wednesday at the Dallas Cowboys’ annual pre-draft press conference at The Star in Frisco, briefly interrupting the session to greet longtime friend and team owner Jerry Jones.
Clinton arrived for a scheduled personal lunch with Jones, the two Arkansas natives who have stayed close for decades. About 25 minutes into the hour-long event, Jones spotted Clinton walking in and paused to welcome him warmly on camera.
Jones called Clinton “a wonderful not only president but friend over the years,” while Clinton quipped that he was “negotiating a draft” before wishing Jones and the team good luck ahead of Thursday night’s NFL Draft. The pair shared laughs with reporters, then stepped away together for their planned meal inside Cowboys headquarters. No official business or political matters were discussed.
The lighthearted moment quickly became the talk of the otherwise routine pre-draft briefing, which featured Jones, Stephen Jones, Will McClay and head coach Brian Schottenheimer fielding questions about the team’s needs. Clinton’s unannounced drop-in fit the unpredictable vibe that often surrounds Cowboys events at The Star.
The visit comes as the Cowboys prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft holding the 12th and 20th overall picks, with defense a clear priority. Clinton, 79, and Jones, 83, have crossed paths many times over the years, including during the Cowboys’ Super Bowl runs in the 1990s when the team visited the White House.
