Cockrell Hill may not be the biggest city in Texas, but there is still plenty of history in the one square mile town. Now, the city had decided to honor a piece of their history, and a Texas legend all at the same time.

This weekend the Stevie Ray Vaughan Park in Cockrell Hill will have its grand opening, marking the spot where the music icon played his first show.

Back in the 1965, a 12 year old boy in Texas was about to embark on one of the most iconic music careers in history, as Stevie Ray Vaughan took the stage at the Hill Theater in Cockrell Hill for his first ever live performance.

While the theater is no longer there, a new park has been built in its place. On Saturday, Cockrell Hill will officially open the new Stevie Ray Vaughan Park.

“This property was special. Nowhere else in Texas, anywhere else, can anyone claim that Stevie Ray Vaughan, the famous Stevie Ray Vaughan, played here," said Cockrell Hill Mayor Luis Carrera.

According to NBC DFW, the new park features a mural honoring the musician, along with parking for food trucks and a stage to grow new talent. Maybe the next Stevie Ray Vaughan will be found at this new park.
