Fort Worth ISD placing cell towers to bring internet to underserved neighborhoods

The Fort Worth ISD is working to bring reliable internet access to underserved neighborhoods.

The Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees approved renting three mobile trailers that will be used to raise temporary cell towers.

District spokesman Clint Bond says the units will be placed on the grounds of Morningside and Rosemont middle schools, as well as Dunbar High School.

"Those will allow us the opportunity to then work on building more permanent structures at those locations" said Bond.

Bond points out that this is robust internet access, so that multiple family members can go online at the same time and not have to worry about slow performance. And families will not have to pay for the service.

"There is no charge to any of our families or students" said Bond.

Officials say the service will be up and running by the first day of school, August 16th.
