Spring has officially sprung in the Lone Star State, and that means so has bluebonnet season!

The bluebonnet has been the official state flower of Texas since 1901. They can be seen scattered all across the state of Texas, especially on the state's roadsides.

You can thank the Texas Department of Transportation for this since they sow more than 30,000 pounds of wildflower seeds each year across Texas highways.

The bluebonnet is a cherished part of Texas culture, and so is the time-honored tradition of pausing to snap photos with these vibrant flowers.

Fire department's across the state have been taking part in the tradition - here are some of our favorites below!

You probably want to get in on the fun, right? If you do, make sure you do it safely! Delhi Volunteer Fire Department shared some safety tips to keep in mind when taking photos with bluebonnets:

1. Do not stop on the highways for wildflower photos.
2. Signal before leaving or entering the roadway.
3. Park off the roadway (off of improved shoulders), parallel to the road in the direction of traffic.
4. Don’t cross lanes of traffic on foot to get to the flowers.
5. Obey signs that prohibit parking on a particular stretch of roadway.

Most importantly, have fun! If you happen to snap some bluebonnet photos, KRLD would love to share them! Send them to us on social media or at krld.digital@audacy.com. Happy Spring!
