The Padres lost the opening game of their series in San Francisco 3-2 on Monday night, as they were unable to get their bats going against Trevor McDonald, who was making his season debut and third career start for the Giants. The 25-year old righty allowed a solo home run to Jackson Merrill in the 1st inning, but that would be one of only two hits he allowed over 7 innings of work, while striking out 8 and allowing no walks in a dominant start. The Padres mustered just three hits total on the night, two of which cleared the fence. Ramon Laureano blasted a solo home run in the top of the 9th inning to bring the Padres to within a run, but the Friars came up short, ultimately unable to break out of their offensive malaise. Randy Vasquez pitched well, efficiently pitching into the 6th inning while allowing three runs, but he didn't receive enough run support to win the game. Walker Buehler will start for the Padres on Tuesday.
