Craig Stammen continued to mix and match his pitching combinations, as he changed his mind and started Randy Vasquez instead of JP Sears. It worked about as well as Stammen could have hoped, as the two pitchers combined to allow just one run in six innings of work. Yuki Matsui then pitched a scoreless frame, while Matt Waldron secured the final six outs for the Padres, giving their high leverage relievers much needed rest. On the flip side, the Padres scored 7 runs on 11 hits, scoring in each of the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. The Padres went 5-11 with runners in scoring position, and broke the game wide open with their 3-run 8th inning.
