John Tucci, a principal recruiter for Amazon Web Services, said the company has a variety of positions it needs to fill.
“Specifically in Philadelphia and the outlying area, we have about 140 open positions that are new to Amazon,” he said. “And then across a greater area of Pennsylvania, about 851 are open.”
Amazon is opening new fulfillment centers, and it’s looking for more delivery drivers and logistics personnel.
Tucci noted, however, the Career Day event is not just about jobs with Amazon.
The company’s mission, he said, is to reach out to the communities it serves — and to those who are out of work due to the pandemic and looking for general employment.
“Our real goal is to coach up our communities in career search expertise and career skills that they would need to not just land a job possibly at Amazon, but anywhere,” he explained, “especially as our economy gets re-engaged over the next several months as COVID begins to decline.”
Amazon Career Day also offers one-on-one counseling to help job seekers.
“They will come to an event and have an opportunity to speak with industry professionals who can really help them get their career skills coached up to where they need to be to nail their interviews, get their resumes noticed, and find a great job for themselves,” Tucci said.
“They can look at a resume and give them tips on it. … They can provide them some interview pointers and skills. And, they can also help give them some of their industry expertise on how to search for the best possible jobs that meet their unique skill set.”
