PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia teenager has been charged after police said he fired a gun in Center City Sunday night during celebrations for the Eagles’ NFC championship win, injuring a 20-year-old man.
Amere Wright, 18, is facing aggravated assault and gun charges. He is accused of shooting the victim in the hip and torso area while he was in a crowd of fans at 13th and Chestnut streets.
Investigators gathered videos from body-worn cams, cellphones and surveillance cameras, which they said helped lead them to the Wright.
Police served a warrant at Wright’s home in North Philadelphia Wednesday morning, and he was taken into custody. While searching the home, investigators found the clothing Wright was wearing that night, a gun and his phone.
The 20-year-old victim is expected to physically recover.
The shooting is one of multiple incidents that took place during Eagles celebrations across the city after Sunday’s game. A 26-year-old woman was charged with driving through a crowd of fans on North Broad Street, injuring eight people.
That night, police also said they issued at least 31 citations, and three officers were assaulted. Outside the South Philadelphia Sports Complex during the game, a state trooper on horseback was struck by a suspected drunk driver.
