The site at Camden County College in Blackwood has been ready for weeks. County officials were counting on it becoming a FEMA site, but that never materialized.
Freeholder Lou Cappelli said he was excited when Jefferson offered to help, because the state is in crunch-time.
“Right now is time to double-down on our efforts,” he said. “It’s certainly not a time to be loosening up our activities. Staying at home is important. So is social distancing.”
Two lanes at the drive-thru will be for residents with an appointment, but they must first get a referral from their doctor.
Jefferson Health New Jersey interim President Brian Sweeney said two other lanes will be dedicated for frontline workers, like grocery employees, health care professionals and first responders.
“We’ve had really great support from the local police and fire departments and EMS. So again, this is a great way for us to give back because that partnership with them as a community resource is really critical,” he said.
The site officially opens Wednesday morning. It will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sweeney emphasized that anyone who wants a test needs to speak to their doctor first.
“Call and get a prescription and get a telehealth visit to the extent they can,” he said. “One of the things that we’ve really seen is that a lot of the needs from a medical care perspective can be done virtually now, which is really exciting.”
Patients must have an appointment first. You can call 844-542-2273.
