PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman held a rally Saturday in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, his first in the city during the campaign.
During the rally at Dorothy Emanuel Recreation Center, the Democrat took some jabs at the campaign tactics of his Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz.
"Dr. Oz never stops reminding that I had a stroke. And I guarantee you, I promise you that there's at least one person in this audience right now that's filming me, hoping that I mess up some words," Fetterman said to booing supporters.
"What an inspiring campaign that he is running, right?"
The Pennsylvania lieutenant governor returned to the campaign trail in Montgomery County earlier this month, his first appearance in Southeastern Pennsylvania since winning the Democratic primary — and since suffering his stroke days before that election.
Oz's campaign has taken aim at Fetterman's health in their increasingly contentious campaign, drawing attention to Fetterman's absence from campaigning. A recent CBS News poll found 60% of respondents believe Fetterman is fit to serve.
According to the website FiveThirtyEight, which factors in several polls, Fetterman is currently favored over Oz by 6.2%. A televised debate between the two candidates is set for Oct. 25.
Fetterman's other scheduled appearance Saturday is in the Lehigh Valley with U.S. Rep. Susan Wild, who is running for re-election in her district.
