PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The two-and-a-half-year-long saga of Philadelphia’s wandering intercity bus terminal is ending where it started. The city is set to approve a deal that would have the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) fix up and run the former Greyhound bus terminal at 10th and Filbert streets.

The PPA is set to lease the terminal that Greyhound abandoned in 2023, refurbish it, and charge fees to the bus companies that use it.

“The goal for the fees that are charged is to pay for the rehabilitation and also the operations of the facility, because we want to make sure it continues to stay safe, clean and well-lit,” said PPA Executive Director Rich Lazer. “We want it to be appealing for the people who come here.”

Legislation to authorize the deal was introduced in City Council on Thursday.  Lazer said the refurbished terminal is expected to open next May — just in time for summer visitors in 2026.

“I think it’s extremely important, especially with Philadelphia being on the world stage next year, that we make sure visitors come to a facility that, again, feels safe, clean, and aesthetically a part of our city. We want it to be successful,” added Lazer.

Greyhound used to run the terminal at 10th and Filbert, but didn’t renew its lease in June 2023. Since then, Greyhound, FlixBus and Peter Pan buses have had temporary terminals — first at Sixth and Market streets, then at Front and Spring Garden streets. Those stops did not have permanent shelters, restrooms or ticketing facilities.
