WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey landmark is gone.
The statue of a white horse at the White Horse Farm along the White Horse Pike had been a roadside icon for more than six decades, but it has fallen victim to vandals.
Atop its red pedestal only the twisted remnants of the horse’s hooves remain.
“I believe it was the weekend of April 1, that Saturday, we noticed that the horse was gone,” said farm owner Neil Pastore. “There was a wind storm through the area. We initially thought that’s what took [the horse] down. But after looking into it some more, we realized that it was vandalized and taken.”
Pastore owns Pastore Orchards, which bought the neighboring White Horse Farm in the Elm section of Winslow Township last year.
“That horse has been vandalized over the years, little by little. Mostly innocent prankings,” Pastore said, “but this one was a lot more destructive.”
He said police have some video and have a good idea who destroyed the horse, but Pastore said he hasn’t decided whether to press charges.
What Pastore has decided, however, is that the white horse will return.
“Our intention is to, at some point, try to replicate the horse that was there and put it back to the way it was.”
