Kacey Musgraves is clapping back at the Recording Academy after receiving notice her newest album, star-crossed, was voted ineligible for consideration in the Country Album category at the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
Musgraves took to her Instagram story to express her disappointment in the Recording Academy’s decision by sharing various photos of her with stand-out Country stars, relaying the message she is well-engrained in the Country genre.

“You can take the girl out of the Country (genre)… but you can’t take the Country out of the girl,” Musgraves captioned a throwback photo of her as a young girl in a cowgirl hat to kick off a slide show of impressive photos with Country’s finest.
“Ain’t that right, @LorettaLynnOfficial?” Kacey wrote on a photo of her singing alongside Loretta Lynn. Musgraves followed up with various, similarly-formatted slides of her with other Country greats including Willie Nelson, Brooks & Dunn, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, Ronnie Milsap, George Strait, Pam Tillis, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, Kris Kristofferson and Lee Ann Womack.
She topped it all off with a caption-less photo of herself on-stage, flipping the double-bird that leaves no room for questioning how she really feels (in case the 13 other slides didn’t relay the message).
Kacey’s online reaction came shortly after news broke that her label president, Cindy Mabe, fired off a letter to the Recording Academy CEO, Harvey Mason Jr, expressing concern and frustrations surrounding the Recording Academy’s decision.
Mabe’s letter, obtained by Billboard, included several reasons she believes the decision is unfair to Country music fans as well as Musgraves, who has become a well-known Country artist and worked hard to make the genre more inclusive while staying true to herself.
