Metro Atlanta residents are waking up to several notable developments, including a property tax increase in Brookhaven, major improvements planned for a historic sports venue and a variety of free community events scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
Brookhaven homeowners are expected to see a significant increase in property taxes following a vote by the city council. Residents packed an overflow room ahead of the decision to voice concerns about the proposed increase. City leaders said the measure is intended to help preserve services and maintain the quality of life within the city.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium is set to receive a $70 million renovation. The project includes upgrades such as new chairback seating, an enhanced video board, improvements to the stadium sound system and other fan-focused enhancements. The investment is aimed at modernizing one of Atlanta’s most recognizable sports venues while improving the game-day experience for visitors.
Looking ahead to the weekend, residents will have several free events to choose from across metro Atlanta. Among the offerings are the Bourbon and Brisket Festival at The Battery Atlanta, a pop-up market featuring handmade crafts at Stone Mountain United Methodist Church, the Summer Sip and Cocktail Crawl in Roswell and the Paw Prints and Butterflies Festival.
