Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie joined Kevin & Taylor for an exclusive interview to discuss Scotland’s unforgettable presence during the World Cup in the United States, the connection between Scottish and American fans, and what’s next in his music career.
Beattie, who spoke with the show from Edinburgh, Scotland, reflected on his experience in Boston during the tournament and the warm welcome the Scottish supporters received from people across the country. He said the energy between Americans and the Tartan Army created a memorable experience.
The singer explained that he was not surprised by how quickly Scottish fans connected with Americans, saying the culture of traveling and representing Scotland is something people take pride in.
Beattie also talked about why Scottish people have such a strong reputation for being friendly and welcoming around the world. He described the personality of the country and how that charm often follows Scots wherever they go.
One of the most talked-about traditions discussed during the interview was Scotland’s famous traffic cone phenomenon. Beattie explained that what started as a humorous tradition in Glasgow became a recognizable symbol of Scottish culture.
The conversation also touched on the relationship between Scotland and the United States during the World Cup and why fans from both countries seemed to connect so naturally.
“When you've got so many people coming into your country, it can get overwhelming, but everybody seems to just be joyous,” Beattie said. “And I think it's what the world needs. You know, it's just a big warm hug and just loving life together.”
Beyond the World Cup, Beattie opened up about his future in music, including his hopes to continue growing his audience in America. He discussed his upcoming projects and the sound he has been creating as he looks toward performing for larger audiences.
Beattie also shared one of the biggest moments of his career so far after being asked to sing for David Bowie’s band, calling it a major honor.
The interview wrapped with Beattie sharing his appreciation for the support from American fans and his excitement for what is ahead.
“Americans have been absolutely amazing,” Beattie said. “Because when you've got so many people coming into your country, it can get overwhelming, but everybody seems to just be joyous.”
