A major tech expansion, high demand for World Cup tickets and Earth Day celebrations are shaping the day across metro Atlanta.
Google announced plans to build a new data center in LaGrange, adding to the more than 200 facilities already operating across Georgia, most of them concentrated in the Atlanta area. While the project brings economic investment, it also raises ongoing concerns about the large amounts of water and electricity required to power such centers. Google says the new facility will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, including efforts to support the nearby Chattahoochee River and the use of recycled wastewater at other Georgia sites.
Soccer fans are also gearing up for a highly anticipated ticket release. FIFA is set to release another batch of World Cup tickets at 11 a.m., with more expected to roll out periodically through the tournament in July. Demand remains high, with approximately five million tickets already sold. Officials continue to urge fans to purchase only through official channels to avoid scams.
Meanwhile, Earth Day is bringing opportunities for residents to get outdoors and give back to the environment. Visitors are encouraged to explore Georgia’s state parks, including Sweetwater Creek State Park, or spend time along the Chattahoochee River. Recycling efforts are also underway, with an electronics recycling event scheduled this weekend at Lenox Square, where residents can safely dispose of items such as phones, computers and televisions.
With a mix of economic development, global sports excitement and environmental awareness, it’s a busy day across the Atlanta area.
