I wonder who South Carolina will be looking at hiring in 2025.
I’ve gone on the record time and time and time and time again that hiring a guy into the toughest conference in college football, at a school whose fans have massive expectations, at a program that is in need of a massive rebuild is a major mistake. I guarantee that he’ll have a long list of big names he can call for advice. I’m sure he’ll be able to fill out a roster of coaches with impressive Wikipedia pages. But there are rough waters ahead (as there are at literally every program)…eventually his feet will be held to the fire in a strange down and distance, clock management situation, or face to face with boosters and he’s going to mess up, but I’m not sure I’m willing to let a guy cut his teeth in my program while paying him $3 million a year with a big ‘ol buyout on the horizon if he can’t figure it out.
South Carolina hired two legendary coaches back to back in Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier. Two guys who’d been in almost every situation a head coach could be in. Then you hired a guy who’d been in (and screwed up) a lot of situations. Now you’ve just hired a guy who’s never been in those situations.
I truly hope I'm wrong. But I'm disappointed for you.
