Since the announcement of the deal between Shane Beamer, former Associate Head Coach at the University of Oklahoma, and the Gamecocks Athletic Department to make him the new head man, questions about his contract have floated around the Upstate.
On Tuesday afternoon, those questions were answered, as the Univeristy announced the details of that contracy, once it was finalized and signed by the Board of Trustees.
The 43 year old with coaching stops at Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgia, in addition to a former stint under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina and his time in Norman, has inked a five year deal worth $13.75 million dollars, accoreding to ESPN.
Beamer will make $2.75 million per season, with a base salary of $1.1 million and guaranteed compensation of $1.65 million from outside rights holders. There are also several bonuses written into the contract that will trigger additional pay, including $200,000 for reaching the SEC Championship Game, and another $1 million for winning a National Championship.
If the University was to terminate his contract without cause, Beamer would be owed 65% of his contract, approximately $1.78 million per year, for each year remaining.
If Beamer elects to leave the University, he will owe the school $7 million in his first year, decreasing by one million per year after each year of the contract.
Beamer is currently in Norman alongside the Sooners preparing for his final game with the team, this weekend's Big Twelve Championship matchup, and is expected to rejoin the Gamecocks soon after, and if the team participates in a bowl game, will travel with them.
We'll have more details as this story continues to develop.
