The ACC has made it official, as the league is adding three new schools. The conference's Board Of Directors voted Friday to approve adding Cal, Stanford and SMU. Those three schools are set to join the conference, in 2024.
The move will help the conference improve its foot print in some large media markets, where it had no presence prior. Cal and Stanford joining the league will put the ACC in the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose TV markets.
SMU's addition will bring exposure for the league in the Dallas market. Both San Fran and The Big D are both in the top 10 for largest media markets in the U.S.
Stanford and Cal's departure from the PAC 12, marks 10 teams that have announced plans to leave. It's been a domino effect for member schools leaving the PAC 12, as eight of those departures have been announced in the last two weeks.
