A late, great, baseball legend from the Upstate has now been re-instated and is eligible for the Hall Of Fame. The ban against Greenville's own "Shoeless" Joe Jackson has been lifted.

Jackson was exiled from Major League Baseball after being accused of being a part of the Chicago "Black Sox" scandal in 1919. Jackson and seven others were accused of taking money to deliberately lose the World Series.

Jackson was born in Pickens County and was raised in the Greenville area. He got his nickname "Shoeless" after playing barefoot after his cleats gave his feet blisters during a Textile League game in Greenville. There is a museum dedicated to "Shoeless" Joe Jackson on East Wilburn Street in Greenville.

Jackson's .408 batting average as a rookie in 1911, still stands as a Major League record, today. The game's all time hits leader Pete Rose has also been re-instated after he was banned for betting on baseball.
