There wasn't much hype or suspense surrounding Clemson's home game with Uconn Saturday. The one unexpected was that Uconn struck first scoring on the opening kick. Brian Brewton took the kickoff 99 yards to the house, to give Uconn a 7-0 lead. Clemson would get on the board on a 49 yard FG from B.T. Potter, to make it 7-3. They took the lead when Will Swinney found a pay dirt on a fake FG run. Clemson's trick play TD gave them a 10-7 lead after the 1st.
Tigers took control in the 2nd quarter, they scored 20 in the frame to take a 30-7 lead into the half. The Tigers got a 3 yard TD run from back up QB Taisun Phommachanh and a 32 yard TD pass from QB D.J. Uiagalelei to Beaux Collins. The Tigers also got two field goals from B.T. Potter in the 2nd quarter.
Clemson would score early in the 3rd quarter on a Phil Mafah TD run. The Tigers final scoring strike came in "mop up duty" late in the 4th. Reserve QB Billy Wiles found Jake Brinningstool for a 25 yard TD hook up. Clemson dominated statistically, even more so than probably expected. Clemson gained 26 1st downs and held Uconn to just 6 first downs all game. The Tigers racked up 476 yards of total offense and held Uconn to just 99. Clemson also had a season best performance against the run, they held Uconn to -17 on the ground.
With the win, Clemson moves to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in ACC play. The Tigers host Wake Forest Saturday for a noon kick. Wake is in the drivers seat for the Atlantic Division Title. The Demon Deacons clinch the division with a win this week at Clemson or a win in Boston over BC in the regular season finale. Clemson will finish the season taking on South Carolina on the 27th.
