Clemson climbs back from deficit to get lackluster win over Troy

Clemson started slow but overcame a double digit deficit to get a 27-16 win over Troy on Saturday. The Trojans struck 1st scoring on a 44 yard TD pass from Goose Crowder to Tray Taylor to go up 7-0.

A Clemson fumble set Troy up for a 37 yard Field Goal to make it 10-0. Tiger QB Cade Klubnik then threw a "Pick 6" on a deflected pass. Troy missed the extra point try which made it 16-0, Trojans.

Clemson then got a 25 yard FG from Nolan Hauser to make it 16-3. Troy missed on a FG try as the 1st half expired. The Tigers trailed by 16-3 at the half.

Early in the 2nd half, Clemson put together an 8 play, 75 yard Touchdown drive to make it, 16-10. A Troy turnover then set up a Clemson TD on a pass from Klubnik and to Bryant Wesco. The extra point gave Clemson their 1st lead of the game at 17-16.

Another Crowder interception set Clemson on a short field which led to another Hauser Field Goal to make it 20-16 at the end of the third quarter. Early in the 4th quarter Troy turned it over on downs, early in the 4th.

Clemson then scored on a Wesco's 2nd TD catch of the game to make it 27-16. The Tiger defense was able to shut Troy out in the 2nd half to propel Clemson to the win. Clemson was also plus-one in the turnover margin.

Crowder's three interceptions on the day keyed the Clemson comeback. The Tigers are 1-1 on the season. They'll travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech in their ACC opener on Saturday.
