"Coaching Carousel" Woodruff names new Coach, others expected to announce this week

An Upstate high school announced the hiring of their new Head Football Coach this morning. Brett Sloan has been named the new Head Football Coach at Woodruff High School. Sloan is an Upstate native, who played at Chapman High and served as an Assistant at Byrnes.

He has spent the last several seasons coaching in Georgia. He served as the Head Coach at Kell High in Marietta from 2017-2021. He went 35-21 overall and won three conference titles in that span.


Sloan takes over a storied Woodruff program that won 10 State Titles under one of the all time great coaches in South Carolina High School history, Willie Varner.

In other coaching news, Sources close to the situation tell me that Mauldin Offensive Coordinator, Chris Stone will be announced as Walhalla High School's new Head Football Coach, this week.

Sources also, Landrum is set to name Broome Assistant Coach Brent Bridges as their new Head Coach. Bridges was Head Coach at Chesnee from 2007 through 2011. He went 35-24 and won a region title while there.
