It's not everyday that a Division Two team knocks off a D-I opponent, but that's exactly what happened in the Upstate over the weekend. D-II Anderson University made the roughly 75 mile roundtrip and clipped homestanding Furman 79-74 on Saturday.
The Trojans closed the 1st half on a 15-5 run to take a 39-34 lead into the break. Furman was cold shooting just 2 of 20 from three point range. Anderson had a 19-12 advantage on the offensive glass and was plus 5 in turnover margin.
Preseason All Conference selections JP Pegues and Marcus Foster did not play in the game for Furman. Garrett Hien led the Paladins with 20, two others were in double figures. Anderson's Garrett Denbow had a game 27 points and was 5 of 10 from three-point range.
Furman is back in action Wednesday night as the open SoCon play at UNC-Greensboro. The game is set for a 7PM tipoff, hear all the action on The Fan Upstate.
