Daniel and Seneca is a storied rivalry, one that I like to call the "Highway 123 Classic". The two teams met to renew that rivalry. Daniel was looking to extend its win streak and stay unbeaten and Seneca was looking to prove something after getting handled by the Lions last year. Seneca would battle, their game plan to slow Daniel's high flying offense worked most of the night. The game was a one score game for three quarters and Daniel was able to score twice late to put it away.
Daniel got the ball first and looked sharp on their opening drive. They marched the field in 8 plays and scored on a Chris Edge TD run on a drive that took just over 2 minutes. Later in the 1st half Seneca went on a long , methodical drive. The Bobcats chewed up over 8 minutes on a 12 play drive. They tied it on a 3 yard run from Adrian Lewis with 11:54 left in the 2nd. Daniel then reeled off two scoring drives in a row. The Lions got a pair of TD passes in the 1st half from QB Trent Pearman. The first went to Jack Purkerson and the second to Misun Kelly. That made it 21-7 Daniel with 2:54 left in the half. Seneca would execute a beautiful 2 minute drill type drive to score with under 30 seconds left in the 1st half. The game would go to the break with Daniel leading 21-14.
Both defenses would make halftime adjustments and would stifle the other offense. Neither team could score in the 3rd frame, after they traded interceptions. The game went to the 4th with Daniel clinging to a one score lead. Seneca would battle and the game was still at 21-14 until less than 5 minutes left. Daniel got a Pearman TD run with 4:31 left to go up two scores. They tacked one on more when Pearman found pay dirt again to seal it 35-14.
Seneca's lack of a passing game ended up hurting them. The Bobcats threw for just 27 yards in the game and the Daniel defense shutout them out in the 2nd half. Daniel would gain over 450 yards in total offense. The Lions rans for 183 and threw for 271. Seneca ran for nearly 200 yards, RB Adrian Lewis was a major part of that he had 167 yards on 37 carries and two TD's. Trent Pearman was 23 of 30 for 271 yards, 2 TD's and a pick, he also ran for two TD's. Daniel RB Chris Edge went for 119 yards on 19 carries and a rushing TD.
Daniel moves to 6-0 on the season, they have won 15 consecutive overall and 22 straight in the regular season. Seneca moves to 5-2 on the loss, it is important to note Seneca has played all year long without D-1 WR prospect E.J. Evett. He came into fall with a serious Achilles issue and hasn't played a down this season. Evett holds offers from Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina
