Furman got their 1st playoff win since 2017 with an impressive 31-6 win at home vs Elon on Saturday. The win gives Furman a 13-8 advantage all time vs Elon, who is they beat in their last postseason victory. Furman only trailed early in the 1st quarter, they would lead from the 10:50 mark of the 1st until the end.
The Paladin defense allowed just two field goals in the game and created two turnovers. They also dominated the ground game, it's been that formula that has brought success all season for the Paladins. They held Elon to just 77 rushing yards on 28 carries, a clip of 2.8 per tote. Furman ran for 251 yards on 46 carries good for over 5 yards per attempt.
Paladin QB Tyler Huff wasn't spectacular in terms of his passing numbers, but he was solid. Huff went 16 of 26 for 140 and a TD. He did damage by running the ball for 93 yards and a score on 10 carries. Most importantly, he commanded the offense and didn't turn it over.
Furman RB Dominic Roberto paced the Paladin ground game with 98 yards on 23 carries. Grant Robinson and Devin Abrams both had TD runs, giving Furman four different players with a rushing score. TE Ryan Miller was the "go-to" receiver hauling in 9 catches for 74 yards and a TD.
Furman led 7-3 after the 1st, 14-3 at half and 17-3 after three quarters on their way to an impressive opening round win. The Paladins now will travel to Texas to take Incarnate Word. The Cardinals are the 7th ranked team in the tournament nationally and are 11-1 on the season. The game is set for a 2PM Eastern next Saturday.
