Mets president Sandy Alderson did not want the pandemic to cut Tim Tebow’s baseball dreams short, and his teammates still think he has a shot at the big leagues.

Mets reliever Dellin Betances, who was doing charity work with CC Sabathia in the Bronx for The Players Alliance, was asked by TMZ Sports on Tuesday whether or not the former Heisman Trophy winner can make the majors and make a difference.

“Why not?” Betances said. “The guy, he’s determined. So, he works hard. He’s determined to get there. You never know.”

Betances spent time with Tebow in Mets camp last spring before the MLB season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The pandemic resulted in MLB scrapping the minor-league season, which means Tebow has not played since 2019 when he hit .163/.240/.255 with four home runs and 19 RBI in 77 games with Triple-A Syracuse.

Tebow is now 33 years old and his big-league window seems to be closing. But as Betances said, you never know.
