PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – One Steeler named a finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame while another was again snubbed.
It’s the sixth time in his career that Alan Faneca is a finalist for a Canton. Only safety John Lynch has waited longer as a finalist without getting in. Lynch is a finalist for an eighth time.
Faneca was a first round pick of the Steelers in 1998. The LSU star missed one game in his career and was selected to nine consecutive Pro Bowls in his 13 years in the NFL.
Of the other finalists, four are on the ballot for the first time-Jared Allen, Calvin Johnson, Charles Woodson and Peyton Manning. Long-time vets Clay Matthews, Sam Mills, Tony Boselli and Leroy Butler are part of the 15 who made the cut.
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will meet virtually on January 19 to elect up to five Modern-Era Players, each receiving at least 80 percent of the vote. Long-time Steelers scout Bill Nunn, Tom Flores and Drew Pearson will be voted on individually to determine if they receive nomination.
Hines Ward was a semi-finalist again and for a fifth time did not make the cut as a finalist.
Other notables also not included-Fred Taylor, Steve Tasker and Richard Seymour.
