Furman crushes Western Carolina, wins 8th straight in SoCon

Furman continues to their play their best basketball of the season, the Paladins dismantled Western Carolina 93-59 at Timmons Arena on Saturday. It marks the 8th straight SoCon win for the Paladins, as they continue to be right in the thick of the regular season conference title race.

Furman's offense was clicking on Saturday helping them build a lead early. However, it was their defense in the second half that helped them put WCU away. The Paladins scored 41 1st half points and took a 41-31 lead into the halftime locker room. They allowed less than 30 second half points, outscoring Western by 52-28 after the break.


The Paladins had five players in double figures on Saturday. Jalen Slawson and Marcus Foster both 17, Mike Bothwell added 16. Tyrese Hughey added 11 and Alex Williams chipped in 10. JP Pegus had a solid and well rounded game scoring 7, dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 9 boards.

Furman is now 21-6 overall and 12-2 in conference play. The program has now 20 or more games in five of the last six seasons under Head Coach Bob Richey. The Paladins are tied with Samford at the top of the SoCon standings. UNCG is a half game back at 11-2.

Furman is in contention for the regular season crown with just five games remaining prior to the conference tournament. The Paladins are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on the Citadel for a 7 PM tipoff.
