Furman senior forward Jalen Slawson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Nov. 29-Dec. 5, the league office announced Monday.

Slawson averaged a double-double of 22.5 points and 13.5 rebounds to lead the Paladins in overtime wins last week over High Point and College of Charleston.

He opened the week with 12 points in Furman’s 74-70 double-overtime win at High Point on November 30, tying his career high with 14 rebounds. He also added four assists, three blocks and two steals in the victory. On December 3, Slawson added his second double-double of the week, scoring a career high 33 points and bringing down 13 rebounds in a 91-88 overtime win over College of Charleston. Slawson, who scored seven of his points in the extra session to lead the Paladins to the win, was 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) from the floor and went 13-for-18 (72.2 percent) from the free throw line. He had three assists, two blocks and a steal.

The Summerville, S.C., native leads the SoCon this season in rebounding (9.1 per game), defensive rebounding (7.4), steals (2.1) and blocks (2.4).

Slawson is the second Furman player to be selected SoCon Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this season. Senior guard Mike Bothwell earned the weekly honor on November 15.

Furman (6-2) is back in action Tuesday when it visits two-time defending Big South champion Winthrop at 7 p.m. and returns home to host defending Sun Belt champion Appalachian State on Friday night at 7. You can hear all the action of Furman Hoops on ESPN Upstate.
