Playoff round up and schedule, several Upstate teams advance to 3rd round after Friday night

Friday night saw the completion of the 2nd round in various classes of high school basketball. Saturday will conclude the 2nd round games, as the herd becomes thinned out. This coming will mark the Upper State Semifinals in all classes. One of the he big stories around the Upstate on Friday was Greenville holding off Greer in 4A Boys in front of a sellout crowd, they had to turn fans away at the gate. Another story, was Travelers Rest and their high powered and balanced offensive attack downing Powdersville by double digits. Below are results from Friday night and the schedule for Saturday.

4A Boys
Greenville outlasts Greer 64-58. It was a sold out, high excitement atmosphere for the Red Raiders home game against in-county rival Greer. That game was the hardest ticket to get in the city, Friday night. Red Raider Guard Isaiah Mosley was the difference maker, he had a game high 28. Mosley was 6 for 6 from the foul line in the closing minutes. Greer All State selection Amare Anderson had a team high 22. It marks a clean sweep for Greenville in three games this season with Greer.


Wade Hampton advanced with a double digit home win. The General downed Westside 69-56. It's an impressive win against a talented Rams squad that finished 2nd in Region 1 to Greenville and features 10th grade All-Stater Zeke Marshall.

Greenville will host Catawba Ridge on Wednesday in the Upper State Semifinals. Wade Hampton will be at Region 3 Champs Lancaster on Wednesday. The winners will meet for the Upper State Title in 4A.

3A Boys Friday
Travelers Rest downed Powdersville 75-58. The home standing Devil Dogs had their hands full early with the visiting Patriots. It was a 34-29 TR lead at half. However, they outscored Powdersville 26-12 in the 3rd to build their largest lead of 19 after the 3rd. 3A State Of The Player Of The Year Caleb Mills got going for TR in the 2nd half on his way to 22 points and 6 assists. His teammate Jake Earle led the way with a game high 23. Rebounding was a big key in the TR win, they had a 19-6 advantage on the offensive glass. Thanks primarily to Junior Center Drew Mckibben, he had a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. 8 of those 14 were on the offensive end. Powdersville All-State pick Nick Sweet had a team high 15.

Daniel got a home win over Chester 61-46. Simms Disbrow led the way for the Lions with 15 and Erik Lipsey added a Baker's dozen.

Homestanding Region 4 Champs Clinton held off visiting Southside 64-56.
Region 2 Champs Wren handled Union County 66-50.
