Jalen Brunson must have been on top of the world following the Mavericks' complete demolition of the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon. How could he not be, considering he was one of four scorers in double-figures at the conclusion of a historic thrashing of his opponent?
Leave it to the Eagles to bring him crashing back down to Earth. Just because he wears a Dallas jersey on the hardwood doesn't mean that he's lost his roots as a Philadelphia sports fan — his father, Rick, played basketball for Temple — and the Villanova alum was one of many Eagles diehards who had to witness the end of an overall terrible season for their beloved Birds.
And leave it to teammate Luka Doncic to give Brunson an extra reminder of what he witnessed on Sunday evening. After ESPN's official Instagram account posted a picture of quarterback Jalen Hurts in honor of the Eagles' official elimination from the playoff race, Doncic commented and tagged Brunson in the post — just in case Brunson wasn't aware already.
It's not the first time that Doncic has forced the Cowboys onto Brunson. Earlier this season, Brunson lost a bet to his superstar teammate centered around FIFA 20. Brunson lost, and he had to suffer the ultimate consquences.
That. Is. Brutal. Brunson put just how bad it is in context, giving us an example of something he'd rather do than support the team whose threads he was forced to wear.
It's friendly banter, I suppose, but Eagles fans around the country know just how bitter the rivalry with the Cowboys is. Maybe the fact that Brunson's Mavs celebrated a 51-point victory just hours before will ease the pain.
