New York lost two of its biggest pitching icons this year, with the passing of both Whitey Ford and Tom Seaver. Collectively, the pair won 434 games in New York, with Seaver leading the Amazins to their first-ever World Series title and first two Fall Classics, and Ford helping the Yankees reach 11 and win six World Series – even winning World Series MVP honors in 1961.

Those two will be among six Hall of Famers celebrated by MLB Network on Saturday, as the Network premieres the new documentary “Icons Lost” at 8 p.m. on December 26. It has been 48 years since six Baseball Hall of Famers passed in the same year, and the documentary will celebrate Seaver, Ford, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Al Kaline, and Joe Morgan, who were all lost in 2020.

The doc features interviews with even more New York legends from all realms, including Joe Torre, Tim McCarver, and Bobby Richardson, as well as other Hall of Famers and legends. Personal stories will be shared – MLB’s official release cites a Richardson story of Mickey Mantle calling pitches for Ford from center field – and this quote from Torre:

“To lose such a big chunk of the backbone of Cooperstown, all of a sudden the number of living Hall of Famers has diminished by a significant number, it's tough."

Check out two clips below courtesy of MLB Network – one on Ford and one on Seaver – and tune in to MLB Network at 8 p.m. on Dec. 26 to see the documentary in its entirety!
