Celtics reportedly were in on James Harden, but what was Houston asking for?

As everyone knows, there was a blockbuster NBA trade Wednesday with James Harden being dealt to the Nets in a four-team deal in which Brooklyn gave up four first-round picks and four draft swaps to Houston.

Brooklyn wasn't the only team in on Harden, as according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the 76ers and Celtics were also interested, but Boston backed out at the end.

And it's likely because the cost was simply too much for Danny Ainge and Co.

What was that cost?

According to Brian Robb of Boston Sports Journal, Houston's asking price for Harden included Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and draft compensation.

Given that, it's completely understandable why the Celtics were not in play towards the end.

The Celtics appear to be getting over their COVID-related issues and are scheduled to host the Magic Friday night.
