It might not be the position player news that Panthers fans wanted on Friday afternoon, but it was a big move for Carolina none the less.

Hours after extending the contract of WR DJ Moore for three years, the Panthers made another roster move, adding former LA Rams punter Johnny Hekker, who was released by the defending Super Bowl Champions earlier in the week.

During Hekker's ten years, all exclusively with the Rams, he earned six All Pro selections and was invited to the Pro Bowl four times, and was recognized on the NFL's 2010's All Decade Team.

During the 2021 championship run, Hekker remained a well above average punter, ranking fourth in net punt yardage, and landing 23 of his 51 kicks inside of the 20 yard line. Hekker is also a threat for fake punts, completing 14 pass attempts for 186 yards, 13 first downs, and one touchdown.

Hekker may not be the prized addition that fans were hoping for, but if he remains consistent, he should absolutely be a valuable piece of the puzzle.
