The preseason state rankings for South Carolina high school football have now been released and the Upstate is heavily represented.
In Class 5A, traditional power Gaffney is ranked 2nd, The Byrnes Rebels are 5th TL Hanna at #7, Spartanburg 8th and Dorman is 10th. Four of those five teams are all in Region 2- 5A. Others getting votes include Hillcrest and JL Mann.
The Greenville Red Raiders come in at #2 in 4A with Westside of Anderson at 9th and Greenwood getting votes.
In 3A, The Daniel Lions come in ranked 3rd, Clinton sits at 4th, BHP 7th, defending Upper State Champs Powdersville start at #8. Others getting votes include Champan, Broome and Seneca.
The defending State Champs Abbeville sit atop the 2A poll with Ninety Six in the others getting votes category.
Christ Church the defending 1A Champs come in #1 with region mates Southside Christian and St. Joseph's come in at 5th and tied for 7th respectively.
The season starts in South Carolina, Friday August 18th.
