(670 The Score) The White Sox are expected to sign Cuban outfielder Yoelqui Céspedes, according to MLB.com. Céspedes, 23, is the top-ranked international prospect, according to MLB.com.

Céspedes defected from the Cuban national team in June 2019 while competing in a league in New York, according to the report. He has since become a resident of the Bahamas.

The deal is set include a $2-million bonus, MLB.com reported. Céspedes is the younger half-brother of longtime MLB outfielder Yoenis Céspedes. The international signing period begins Jan. 15.

The White Sox have had a really successful track record of signing players out of Cuba. First baseman Jose Abreu has starred for the White Sox for the past seven seasons and won the American League MVP award this past season. In 2017, the White Sox landed heralded outfield prospect Luis Robert, who emerged on the big league scene in 2020 and finished second in the AL Rookie of the Year voting.
