AHHHHHHHHHH GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYBODY, and tell your friends: Dec. 30th on the FAN, it’s Basketball Jones and Little Dog!
As announced on Wednesday’s Carton & Roberts Show, Wednesday, Dec. 30 will be a special afternoon on WFAN: from 2-3 p.m. (or maybe 4 p.m.), Sonny Carton and Colin Russo – aka the sons of Craig Carton and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo – will take over the Carton & Roberts Show for their very first foray onto to airwaves!
Craiggy had teased a major announcement at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the firestorm grew when he introduced the Mad Dog as a special guest to help give it; Carton and Russo are well-known to have had a tense relationship in the past, but these days, Dog is Team Craiggy.
“I’ve always loved Evan, he knows that,” Dog said, “but you and I have had our issues. But I think you and I are better than we’ve ever been, and if you’ll let bygones be bygones, I will too, because this is a new chapter for us.”
That’s all thanks to a mutual friend, and Craig told the story about how while he was away, Russo was one of the few who always asked said mutual friend how he was doing.
And so, it’s a new era in more ways than one, after teasing various announcements (including a Dog return to WFAN), Craig dropped the bombshell that the sons of two WFAN legends would combine forces on Dec. 30 – an idea born after hearing Colin Russo rant on the air on Mad Dog Radio on Dec.
7 after the Jets’ loss to the Raiders.
“He’s a freshman at Wisconsin, and I put him on the air that day because he was so upset by Ruggs’ catch; he’s a Jaguars fan and wants Trevor Lawrence,” Russo said. “He was so upset he took a five-hour walk, and on Monday, I was sitting here trying to think of which game to lead with, and from a national perspective, that game made sense. Colin is home and he’s been on before, so I told him to come on. I put him on, and I kept my mouth shut to see how he would handle seven or eight minutes of screaming and yelling a la Chris Russo 1988!”
According to Craig, the boys have at least an hour to show their wares, and “we have two hours set aside, so if they want to wrap up at 3, great, and if they want to go to 4 because they’re rolling, so be it.” Papa Carton will be in-studio with the youngsters to make sure things go smoothly, but the Big Dog is gonna have to wait to hear it – he’ll be doing his own thing elsewhere.
He hopes it goes well, though, because if not?
“If they fall on their face and get pounded, I’m not gonna be there, and they have to take it!” Russo ranted. “But I can see Mushnick now, writing a column about how I put my son up against me!”
No word on whether Chris McMonigle’s children will fill in as producer and associate producer, but according to Craig, Al Dukes is already looking to adopt an 18-year-old for the role!
