Furman couldn't get out of its own way on Saturday night. They fell 24-20 to Charleston Southern at Paladin Stadium. The Paladins turned it over 4 times on the night, while Charleston Southern played virtually mistake-free football.
CSU struck first after an 8 play 68 yard Touchdown Drive that was capped off with a Noah Jennings TD pass. The PAT failed and CSU led 6-0 after the 1st quarter. Furman got on the board with an Ian Williams 28 yard Field Goal, 6-3. Furman then went up 10-6 after a TD pass from Trey Hedden to Colton Hinton in the 2nd quarter.
The Buccaneers then retook the lead on the 2nd TD catch of the night for Jennings. CSU scored with 28 seconds left in the 1st half and led 14-10 at the break.
Furman then opened the 2nd half with a 79 yard TD drive and lead 17-14 early in the 3rd. A Paladin interception then set CSU up on a short field and they scored on an Autavius Ison TD run and to take a 21-17 lead after the 3rd.
Furman then cut the lead 21-20 with less than 10 minutes left in the game after a 23 yard Ian Williams Field Goal. CSU answered with a Field Goal of their own to extend the lead to 24-20 with 2:18 left to play. The Furman offense then got the ball back, but they couldn't get anything going on their final drive. The Paladins turned the ball over on downs and CSU salted the clocked away.
Furman is now 0-2 on the season. The Paladins will look to get in the win column this weekend. They'll host Stetson for a 2PM kickoff Saturday at Paladin Stadium. You can hear all the action of Furman Football all season long on The Fan Upstate.
