An Upstate native has announced plans to enter this summer's NBA draft. On Monday, former Wren High and Legacy Early College star Bryce McGowens declared for the NBA draft.
McGowens had a breakout year as a Freshman at Nerbaska this past season, averaging nearly 17 points per game and was named to the Big Ten All Freshman Team. Bryce played alongside his brother Trey in Lincoln this past year, after choosing the Huskers over Florida State.
McGowens projects as a wing in the NBA. His 3 point shooting was a bit low this year at 27% from college three point range. He will need to get those numbers up, but the good news is that his mechanics are solid. He is a solid run/jump athlete for the position. He has solid height and length at 6 foot 7 and has a plug wingspan. He excels in transition and is very fluid in creating his own shot off the dribble. He will need to add some weight and strength to his wiry frame, but is only 19 year old and won't be 20 until November. That gives him plenty of time to do so and also gives him upside as a prospect.
Bryce will test the draft process and get feedback on his stock. He could return to college if he withdraws from the draft prior to June 2nd. Most draft analysts have him currently projected as a late 1st round pick. His announcement tweet is below.
