In addition to bringing in Marty Hurney as its new GM, the Washington Football Team is hiring Martin Mayhew, San Francisco's VP of player personnel, to an unspecified "high-ranking" position in its front office, as first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Per Rapoport, Mayhew will work alongside Hurney and head coach Ron Rivera as they continue to restructure the front office organization.

Mayhew, 55, has spent the past four seasons with the 49ers, who made a Super Bowl appearance in 2019, serving as their vice president of player personnel since 2019. Prior to joining San Francisco in 2017, Mayhew spent a year as the Giants' director of football operations after an eight-year run as GM of the Lions.

The Lions went 47-81 with two playoff appearances under Mayhew, beginning with their 0-16 season in 2008. Mayhew first joined Detroit's front office in 2001.

Prior to his career as an executive, Mayhew had a nine-year playing career as a defensive back in the NFL. He played four seasons for the Washington Redskins (1989-1992) and was a member of their Super Bowl XXVI championship team during the 1991 season.

As Nicki Jhabvala notes for The Washington Post, the deal with Mayhew has not been finalized.
