I went 12-2 on my picks this past Friday which puts me at 49-19 on the season.
My biggest mistake was thinking that Westside was going to upset TL Hanna. I saw Westside a few weeks back, but I am realizing now that the Byrnes defense made the Westside offense look a little better than I thought they were. TL Hanna shut down the Rams attack and the Yellowjackets were proficient on the offensive side of the ball as well. TL Hanna showed on Friday that they are still one of the best teams in the state.
Final Score: Hanna 45, Westside 14.
My second mistake of the week was picking Woodmont over Easley. Woodmont came into this game 4-0 and Easley came into this game 1-3 with one win over Seneca. Woodmont was the better team on paper, but that is why you play the game. Easley pulled the upset and defeated Woodmont.
Final Score: Easley 51, Woodmont 33.
Other than those two mistakes, I picked 12 correct and here are those scores:
Dorman 42, Ridge View 20
Broome 35, Landrum 7
Dutch Fork 42, Spartanburg 13
Christ Church 33, Heathwood Hall 14
Greer 35, Woodruff 19
Riverside 37, Blue Ridge 0
Hillcrest 48, Wren 35
Mauldin 58, Boiling Springs 7
Greenville 31, Southside 0
J.L. Mann 55, Southside 7
Gaffney 38, Gray Collegiate 35
Timberland 32, Chesnee 19
Other takeaways:
1) Dorman rebounded well. No, I am not talking about Thomas Ryan's team on the hardwood, I am talking about what we all thought may be happening. Dorman struggled out of the gate this season, but they have turned things around and they won big on the road Friday. The Cavaliers were led by Demarius Foster who rushed for 269 yards off of 29 carries and scored 5 TD's.
2) The Broome centurions also rebounded well after a few games where they lost the lead earlier in the season. Ramirez & Dewberry showed out for Broome on Friday against Landrum. This will give this Broome squad alot of confidence as region play approaches.
3) Don't over-react when you see the Spartanburg score as the Vikings got trounced by Dutch Fork. That is what Dutch Fork does. I still think this Vikings team has a good shot at a region championship.
4) Riverside is 6-0. Enough said.
Region play is here and this is where the games start to matter. Let's go!
