When is too much not enough?
When is 200 MPH not quite flat out?
When is $100,000 not required?
When it's Dodge…that's when.
And if you've been following Dodge's 700+ HP offerings for the past few years, you're probably wondering "Well, what are they going to do next"?
Here's your answer. And get this: If you can find one in base trim ( big if ), you could have a big bunch of what's above for not 100K, but a mere 60 thousand!
But if you want it ALL, specify the new-for-'19 Hellcat REDEYE package. "Overkill" is an understatement.
If the "regular" Hellcat's 717HP is not enough, the REDEYE delivers 797. ( And hey—I know--how do you call any Hellcat "regular"? )
And if a 199 MPH top end just isn't going to bring your pizzas home fast enough, the REDEYE will hustle 'em home at 203. Yes—here's a production car that you can just walk in off the street and buy for well under $100,000 that'll do 200 MPH. Really…did you ever think you'd see something like that?
A 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat in base trim starts with a window-sticker a little under $60,000. The REDEYE is an 11K bump….bringing you the 80 extra horses, along with the functional dual hood scoops with cold air intakes, heavy-duty engine cooling, and 6-piston Brembo brakes.
Another 15 thousand or so dollars brought us Pirelli 305 / 35ZR20 all-season performance rubber, a rear spoiler, an 8-speed automatic, blind-spot and cross-path detection, heated and ventilated front seats, competition suspension and a wide-body fender-flair package to hold those ultra-wide 20s.
You also get an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, but come on…you're going to be spending most of your time listening to the engine, aren't you?
All in, our test Challenger Hellcat REDEYE stickered at under 86K.
That's 797 HP…0-60 in 3.4 seconds…and a 200+ MPH top end…all for under 86K.
And if that doesn't strike you as serious enough, ask yourself this: What other vehicle that you can name offers you the chance to save a few precious performance pounds by deleting the rear seat, the floor mats, the tilt and telescoping steering column and opt for a lightweight windshield washer bottle?
Is Dodge serious about their Redeye Hellcat? Ya' think?
