AutoNSider Review | 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander
Really?
Mitsubishi?
Champ of exactly what?
Let’s start with “Champ of the most rows at the lowest price of any SUV out there today.”
And those are leather-lined rows…all three rows of ‘em…heated in the front…riding on 18” alloys…with all the blind-spot, lane-change, and rear-cross-traffic alerts that you’d expect.
Plus All Wheel Drive. All for a list price of $30,225.
And actually, if you forgo the leather, sunroof, a few of the electronics and a bit of trim, you can have those three rows in the mid-$20’s.
Either way, Outlanders come standard with alloys and a 166 HP 2.4 liter four with a continuously variable automatic. Mileage is rated at 25 MPG City and 30 Hwy. Subtract just one MPG for all-wheel-drive.
Need more? There’s a top-of-the-line “GT” with a 224 HP six, a conventional 6-speed automatic, all-wheel-drive, upgraded sound and trim, sunroof, and an all-around-view camera. That’ll set you back somewhere in the low to mid $30’s and get 20 MPG City and 27 Hwy.
And if you’re sitting there thinkin’ “Mitsubishi….I don’t know……….” Then know this. Mitsubishi is the largest company in Japan. They just barely missed being in the top 100 companies in overall world-wide sales. If I had to guess, I’d say they’re here to stay. They back up what they make with a 10-year / 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty…a 5-year / 60,000 mile warranty that you can transfer to the second owner…and 5-year, unlimited mileage roadside assistance. Need more reasons? They’ve now partnered with Nissan.
As for how the Mitsu Outlander SEL drives, I got into this Outlander SEL after spending a week in a Crew-Cab pickup. I drive in what is rated as one of the top ten worst cities in which to drive. And I park in an underground garage under construction / destruction. Non-stop jackhammers…sparks flyin’…giant holes in the pavement where I used to park…orange pylons everywhere…and a maze of temporary scaffolding holding it all up.
Let’s just say it was a delight to get into something nimble and maneuverable…yet with room for seven.
As for power? I think I’d prefer the V-6 with its 6-speed auto.
But as for price and economy, I definitely appreciate 25 – 30 MPG…ample three-row room…heated leather…world-class warranty…and mid-to-30K price.
If I was putting my money on the table…I’d probably go for the sub-30K four cylinder. Follow AutoNSider on Facebook for review videos and more!
