The US Women's National Team Wins the 2019 World Cup

The United States women's national soccer team has once again won the World Cup, defeating The Netherlands to gain the team's fourth World Cup championship, and its second World Cup victory in a row.
Led by Megan Rapinoe, who scored the first goal of the match, the US women's team has been one of the biggest stories in sports this year, not only for its dominant performance on the field but also for political reasons.
The team has brought attention to the issue of gender discrimination and equal pay, since they say the men's team -- which most people would agree is not as dominant -- makes more in earnings. They are currently involved in a lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation.
Rapinoe has taken a knee in matches to show solidarity with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and just days before this victory refused to sing The National Anthem, choosing instead to stand in silent protest. She also stated weeks before the final match that she would not visit the White House if the team won the World Cup, drawing a response from Donald Trump on social media.
Setting a new record for World Cup victories should help their cause; no other women's team has ever won four titles, and the US team is breaking its own record after beating Japan in the last World Cup.
Congratulations to the US women's national team!
