Are You Ready?

Yes…are you the one who’s got 150 – 200K on your ten year old ride and have heard enough about all-electric that you’re finally ready to at least take a look?

This might be a good place to start.

And if you, like most folks, still start with looks, Chevy’s ’25 Equinox EV has a shape that seemed to catch the eyes of men and women fairly equally, with the “Galaxy Grey” / purple metallic paint helping attract that attention.  And here’s a surprise…no extra charge for that color, either

But while they liked it’s looks, no one knew what the Equinox was.  It has a completely separate body from the gas-engined Equinox, which is still in production. In my opinion, with so many all-electric vehicles intentionally designed to…let me be polite here…look “different”, the Equinox seems to be to say “futuristic”, but appropriately so.

So why start your all-electric search with an Equinox?  I mean, hey…BMW makes some nice electrics, too, right? Y3w they do…and a nicely loaded X3 or X5 will perform darned well…but it’ll easily run into the $60’s and $70’s…maybe more.

The Equinox EV LT, on the other hand, may not be quite as powerful, plush and poised as those Beemers, but it starts in the mid $30’s and gives you two rows with ample room for five, a 319 mile range ( 307 with AWD ), a huge 17.7” screen, and an even huger 57.2 cu ft of storage with the rear seats folded, a good-sized secret storage area under the rear floor, remote start, and a wide range of safety alerts and warnings.

Want more? A little over 16K more brought almost everything else to the party, adding attractive heated and ventilated faux leather, heated outboard rears, heated steering and mirrors, a heads-up display, wireless charging, ambient lighting ( even in the steering wheel ) 21” alloys, roof rails, trailer wiring, surround-vision, a panoramic roof, and GM’s Super Cruise and enhanced parking assist.  We even got our own dual-level charge cord.

Speaking of charging, there’s now over a quarter million public chargers and 20 thousand Tesla chargers that Chevys can now use.

But wait…there’s more!   Chevy offers something that you’ll see more and more of as all-electric driving evolves.  GM’s Energy Power Shift Charger allows bi-directional charging.  Exactly what does that mean for you?  Well…the next time the power goes out in your home, you can use your EV battery to charge your home. ie: you can charge AT home, or charge YOUR home.  Pretty attractive feature.

And then there’s the “My Chevy App”” that allows you to auto pay while charging or using toll roads.   Again, I’m not the first guy to call all-electric vehicles “Computers on Wheels”…but the more they evolve, the more true that becomes.

All in, our loaded test Equinox EV LT came in with a window sticker of $51,545…including destination charges…and looked as if it might cost several thousand more.

Again…if you’re ready to finally jump-start all-electric driving, an Equinox might be a good place to start looking.
